Blog post: Why a part of me want the mancs to win their 18th and 19th
Why? Because I believe history can repeat itself.Ever since the Souness era, every Liverpool players and managers were and still are compared to the Great Bill Shankly era. In some ways it became a constant burden to each and everyone, always being compared to the era. Having ex players and managers constantly undermining the work of the current era doesn’t help us as well. We’ve grown to having a certain Mr. Ferguson in our life. Love him or loathe him, he is up there with the best. Truth or false, it’s common to think that he’s obsessed with Liverpool’s history, and will do his utmost to make sure that his manc team surpass us under his tenure.
Which leads me to my rather psychotic thought. If he’s to become the one who leads them surpassing us, what’s next for him? He’s done almost every major honours in club football, and he will surely think to end his career while he’s on the up, to leave behind a legacy.
Now this is interesting. What’s next for manc supporters then? They WILL HAVE TO find a manager to resume Mr. Ferguson’s “greatness”. Who’s to say that they will automatically find a suitable one? Each and every manager after Mr. Ferguson will be compared to him, and new players will be compared to the likes of Giggs, Ronaldo, etc. The new manager won’t have the same “respect” from rivals, friends, referees and everyone associated to English football. The new manager won’t have the courtesy to referee bollockings and got away with it. He will have to make his mark. He will have to earn the “respect”. From all sides. Scenes of “The Damned United” spring to mind. And seeing how football fans can have their say in every media available nowadays, chances are if the manager doesn’t bring success after a season or two, call for heads are unavoidable. One of the biggest contributor to their success was our fall. History can repeat itself. Not to say that our success will automatically happen, but it’s a big monkey off of our back. Of course, another part in me can’t stand a slightest chance of seeing them surpassing our records. Saying all those things I said earlier made me look stupid and naive. But I think it’s still a possibility. A fair shout.
